Others demand human-like AI that will expect to beat them still even after they've figured out every game mechanic and formula down to the finest detail. This isn't SimCity or some other directionless sandbox.Ĥx games have multiple difficulty settings, to cater both for those who want to be challenged and those who're after an easier time of it with less pressure to expand and explore things at their own pace and that's possible here too.ĭespite that, a common problem seems to be that if a game has an easy option, some players will take it, finish it easily and then complain the game is boring because they've seen it all without any tension of losing. The point of Master of Magic is to conquer the world though, all it's game mechanics are built around that goal and the AI plays to do that too. Originally posted by Robineus:I dunno for me master of magic was never hugely about conquering the world, any half baked warlord can do that. Sadly, AI advanced enough to be able to judge several turns into the future how much defenders they'll be able to produce and need is not possible, that's something even human players often struggle with.Īccording to playtesting, the lack of defenders is not a significant problem, as attacking the cities results in a war declaration which will send most of their troops to attack the player and retake the lost city or even more - either way the player has to fight those troops and most likely in a location less convenient for them. Unfortunately the AI can't plan ahead like a human player and while they will attempt to fill newly founded cities with troops whenever possible, they might not have the free troops available, especially on lower difficulty. You need cities for every building type so theurgists will build them for more magic power, militarists for troops and so on, there really isn't a personality that doesn't want more territory especially considering this is a game about conquering the world(s). Settler production is independent of AI personalities and depends on land size and difficulty settings only.
